Community Project
This project was a two phase programme to convert a concrete prefabricated industrial building into a church which also provides a community hub including rentable office space, a cafe and an auditorium.

Martello were appointed by the Riverside Vineyard Church as Technical Architect, Contract Administrator and Quantity Surveyors and we worked with local building company Jenners Contractors to deliver the project.

Phase one of the project was the conversion of a 1980s extension to the concrete building into offices and meeting rooms. The second phase was the conversion of a significant portion of the ‘shop floor’ of the industrial building into an auditorium, taking into account the necessary acoustic requirements of a church.

Also included within the build was a commercial kitchen fit out and cafe area, a reception area and private hire rooms and sufficient toilets to accommodate the usage of the building as well as new entrances to the building.

There were a number of technical challenges with this project including the provision of suitable windows and a mechanical heating and fresh air system.

Martello Building Consultancy were appointed by Folkestone & Hythe District Council/Creative Folkestone to act as Employer’s Agent for this project in Payers Park, Folkestone. The project was to bring a dilapidated piece of land back into use in Folkestone Creative Quarter as a public park and art installation as part of the 2014 Folkestone Triennial.
